    1. What is a counter? - Top

A counter is a piece of software that tracks the total surfer traffic to a site. It keeps track of how many surfers visit a page of a site per hour, day, week, month, and year. The counter is triggered by a chunk of HTML code that is placed on one or more pages on your site. That code contains an <IMG> tag which sends a request to our servers for an image. The counter software on our site logs the hit internally each time the page is visited. Advanced counters can keep track of such statistics as impressions to a page, unique impressions, reloads, one-hour returns, and one-day returns, as well as ip addresses, browser types, plug-ins, screen sizes, visitor referrer info, countries, domains, monitor colors and a lot of other useful data. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    2. What are the features of your different counters? - Top

We are currently offering three custom counters:

    1. Basic Counter - This counter tracks surfer traffic for an individual page on your site. It displays statistics on an hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis. Your site gets listed in our Top Sites and search engine.

    2. Full Site Counter - This counter acts as a basic counter for multiple pages of your site. It keeps track of surfer traffic to each page as well as overall traffic to all pages. With this counter, you can determine which pages of your site are most popular and gauge overall traffic to your site as a whole.

    3. Network Counter - Our network counter is THE solution for tracking your entire network's traffic and referrer activity. This counter is best suited for large conglomerations of high traffic sites. This counter provides easy, instant information about overall traffic activity to many different sites in one simple interface. Your site gets listed in our MegaSites list and search results under the category you select. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    3. Where should I place the counter code? - Top

For the most accurate statistics, you should place the counter code on the top 25% of your page. The higher up on the page you place the code, the more accurate your stats will be because the image that loads triggers your counts.

Note: Try using a simple text editor like 'Notepad' when adding counter code. Editors like FrontPage and PageMill tend to alter the code which can result in a 'broken' counter image. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    4. I can't seem to login to my account. What is going on? - Top

You must enter your SexList account ID (TSLID) that was assigned to you after signing up. If you have forgotten your TSLID, you can find it in your HTML counter code. It is the number that appears after the "/?TSLID=" string in your code. If you selected private stats, you must also enter your account password to view your stats. If you have forgotten your password, email us at support@sexlist.com with your TSLID and we will email your password to you. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    5. I forgot/lost my account ID/password. What can I do? - Top

If you lost/forgot your account ID and/or password, send us an email at support@sexlist.com with as much information as you can about your site (site name, site url, email address, site description) and we will try to retrieve that information and email it to you. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    6. When I login to check my stats, I don't get any info. Why? - Top

If you have just placed a new counter on your site, then you have to wait a few minutes for our database to refresh new accounts. If the problem persists, there may be an error in your counter code. Email us at support@sexlist.com if this occurs. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    7. I get n hits a day, but I can't find my site in your Top Sites listing. Why? - Top

There are only a few reasons why your
site is not listed in our Top Sites.

    1. If you are using the MultiPage counter, your ranking in the Top Sites is by your highest hit page in 24 hours, not the total of all your pages' hits in 24 hours. This was implemented to keep the Top Sites ranking system fair for sites using the single page counter.
    2. Your site was flagged for cheating due to violation of our counter terms of use. You can read our counter rules here.

    8. How can I make updates and changes to my account? - Top

You can login at http://www.sexlist.com/webmaster/console/ and enter your SexList account ID (TSLID) and password. You will be able to change just about every aspect of your information and counter options from this interface. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    9. How do I change my counter category? - Top

You can now change your counter category from your Webmaster Console interface.
Enter your TSLID and password to login, then select the new counter category of your choice. Changing the counter category requires that you update your counter code. The new code will be displayed for you to cut and paste over your old code. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    10. How do I change from Single Page to MultiPage counter or vice versa? - Top

Since the single page and MultiPage counters utilize different methods of storing statistical data, you cannot switch from one to the other without losing access to your previous stats. We recommend that you save or print out your monthly stats, then re-signup for the different counter. Your old counter will be deactivated after it has been inactive for a few weeks. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    11. How do I cancel an existing account? - Top

To cancel a counter account, send us an email at support@sexlist.com with your TSLID and password and a request for cancellation. Our support team will deactivate your account at once. - Updated: September 23, 1999

    12. What other features does SexList offer? - Top
